What Brand Dog Food Do You Feed Your Dogs

What Brand Dog Food Do You Feed Your DogsI just started doing my research via the net, and am not able to really find anyone who will say what brand dog food is "best" or "worst."
I am finding that the major retail brands are not good for your dogs, or that is what I am finding in my research. We have 2 labs, and spend close to $70 which usually gets us through 3 weeks if not the full month. We feed our 4 legged family members Purina One. I would be interested to hear what other people on here feed their dogs. TIA, Jason
Re: What Brand Dog Food Do You Feed Your DogsWe have 3 small dogs.
I started a new dog diet in March. (Green slime 'salad' with a little meat.) The results are pretty amazing since the diet change... One dog had an extremely strong breath odor. The breath would knock a person over from 3 feet away. Now, no one can smell her breath even within inches from her face. All three dogs have much less of that "doggie smell", almost nil. An older dog had some small growths or bumps and also some skin tags. She had blemishes (like age spots) on her belly. ALL these are now gone. No bumpy growths, no skin tags, no blemishes. This dog has more energy and is brighter, more alert. Their weight is stable. They seem happier. I also have been noticing much less of a fidgety-type scratching or licking. Each week, I cook about $8 worth of hamburger or chicken or turkey. This lasts the week for all three dogs. (They get very small portions of meat.) Each week I blend-chop about $8 in vegetables. This comprises most of their diet. Typically, I buy the frozen green beans, frozen mixed broccoli-califlower. I put these in a blender with some other green leafy vegetables... ...parsley, celery, cilantro, carrots, mustard greens, turnip greens, kale, (very little spinach) are often some of the ingredients...or parts of various concoctions. I blend all this together making a green slimy rough 'salad' mix. I often toss in anise seeds, a little fresh oregano, a little fresh alfalfa, a small amount of wormwood and cloves to keep away parasites, sometimes fresh tumeric root, maybe some seaweed kelp, sometimes a tad of rosemary. I will sometimes blend a meat or some peanut butter with the mix in order to keep it from separating. I never use lettuce as a green. I avoid using very much spinach. Most always, I add a magnesium or CalMag powder which probably helps their nervous system and other health aspects, just as it does with people. http://www.petergillham.com/wp/2009/11/natural-calm/ I buy the frozen peas and put them on top of the green slime. Serving... I microwave a very small portion of meat, then spoon on lots of green slime. I mix it together and that is dinner and breakfast (and a small lunch). ---- Scientists often do 'animal experiments' in order to get an objective analysis for applications with people. There are some strong implications for people with some of these results.
Re: What Brand Dog Food Do You Feed Your DogsI have a black lab...I fed her Wellness Large Breed Puppy till she turned two and now she get Innova. I supplement the dry with half a chicken breast each day. We spend two hours a day at the dogpark so she get plenty of exercise.

Re: What Brand Dog Food Do You Feed Your DogsMy wife buys some expensive dog food, and I use to complain about it until the day she tried a cheaper brand and my dogs began to diarrhea all over the place.... At that point in time I began to reflect on my priorities. In other words, I factored in the cost of my time cleaning up diarrhea versus the cost of the dog food. In summary, I no longer consider the dog food expensive, and would likely even consider purchasing stock in the company that makes it in order to keep it around.

Re: What Brand Dog Food Do You Feed Your DogsI usually feed my 2 dogs IAMS for toy breeds (we have a Chihuahua & a Pomerian). For some reason, it's hard to find small kibble that doesn't break the bank.
My sister has 4 Chihuahuas and feeds them Nutro Nature's Variety and medallions of raw food (she gets her dog food from Canine Commissary). Now my mom feeds her 2 dogs homemade food, similar to what TomT does. She has a Terrier and a Shar Pei.
